About Cornerstone Construction (Bristol)
Cornerstone Construction (Bristol) Ltd is a modern, forward thinking business. We have well trained and dedicated staff capable of planning, managing, and executing a wide range of commercial building projects.
We understand the complexities of a construction project and have the tools to deliver for our clients.
The Cornerstone team are a varied group, coming from different backgrounds and all with our own interests and specialities. We all however, have one thing in common; Commitment. Commitment to the success of the project, commitment to our company, and commitment to each other.
This attitude within the company encourages a really positive working environment, which in turn leads to a positive experience for the most important (if temporary) member of our team, the Client.
Here’s a bit of background on some of us:
Nick Stone – Company Owner/Director
Nick has been building all of his working life, gaining a huge amount of experience ‘on the tools’ for various construction companies, on projects large and small. He began Cornerstone Construction in 2011 and has grown the company year on year ever since. Now based in the Portishead office, Nick is responsible for winning new contracts, ensuring our clients’ needs are met for the duration of every project, and steering the company in the right direction over the long term. He has achieved a Level 7 NVQ in senior construction management.
Out of work, Nick is a passionate mountain walker and climber.
Jason Matthews – Operations Manager
Jason started with Cornerstone in 2016. Initially working on site, before moving into the office to take charge of many of our day to day activities. A big part of Jason’s role is close coordination with our site managers to ensure the right people and materials are in the right place at the right time. Jason also has a big hand in our procurement process, and is responsible for production of much of our Health & Safety documentation. Jason achieved an NVQ level 7 in Construction Management.
Jason likes to combine his love of real ale and rugby whenever time allows.
Neil Williamson – Site Manager
With Cornerstone from day one, Neil is now in charge of activities on a number of projects. He is responsible for the work produced by our staff and subcontractors, and ensures the technical details are correct at every stage of construction. His role involves problem solving, client relations, subcontractor management, and the daily monitoring of all of our Health & Safety procedures.
Neil has a love of anything on 2 wheels, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Adam Baumbach – Site manager
After working with Cornerstone for many years as a subcontractor, Adam was invited in to help manage the company in response to our steady growth. Operating in a similar role to Neil, Adam is mainly responsible for overseeing our reactive maintenance and small projects on the rail network. This work takes place in a challenging environment and needs real leadership. Adam achieved an NVQ level 4 in Construction site supervision.
Adam has hung up the rugby boots, but keeps active in the gym – training regularly with his teenage boys.
All of our staff and subcontractors are very well trained to carry out their particular roles within the business. We firmly believe that training our staff and developing our skills is one of the most rewarding and worthwhile investments a business can make.
Here are some of the training certificates that some, or all of our staff hold;
CSCS – The benchmark certificate for ensuring people have some basic safety training for working in construction.
PTS – To enable working on the rail network.
SMSTS/SSSTS – The well respected Site Management Safety Training Scheme.
PASMA – for the proper use of temporary scaffolding.
IPAF – For safely using cherry pickers and boom lifts.
Asbestos Awareness – Very important for any demolition works.
First Aid – 4 members of our team have the first aid at work certificate.
Excavator and Dumper – CPCS and NPORS registered card holders.
CAT Scanner – for detecting underground services prior to making excavations.
All electrical and gas works are carried out by suitably registered engineers, holding the GasSafe and NICEIC certificates.
